Successful seed sowing - flowers
Hands on workshop, sowing a mixed selection of seeds to take home
Upcoming Sessions
Service Description
This April workshop aims to give you the confidence to sow your own seeds and know how to look after them to produce beautiful flowers for your garden. We will sow some here that you can take home. I will focus on a selection of seeds suitable for sowing now eg sweet peas, cosmos, poppies, Love in a mist, scabious, Rudbeckia, Zinnia and more, all of which are great as cut flowers. You are welcome to bring any seed packets that you have already bought and intend to sow this year. What we will cover: what containers to use what compost germination preferences like heat, light hardy vs half hardy annuals problems all your questions I will bring some 'that I sowed earlier' for you to experience pricking out seedlings so that you know what to do when yours are at the right stage. All materials such as pots, labels, seeds and compost will be provided but please bring gloves if you would like them, an apron or clothes that won't mind a bit of compost on and a medium sized box or container to bring your pots/trays home in. As this is hosted in the back of a cafe you will be able to buy refreshments here. You can book and pay for your place on the workshop here or pay cash in person at Congars Cafe, Congresbury, N. Somerset. I am offering a discount for those who wish to book onto two workshops (2 for £35). This can be two of the vegetable ones, two of the flowers or one of each. You will see the options when you click the 'book now' button. FUTURE WORKSHOPS Currently, I plan to hold regular workshops so that we can keep on top of seed related jobs, like sowing, pricking out, potting on, transplanting etc. These would be approximately monthly, possibly starting in February and continuing throughout the year until autumn. We will do some practical work and can talk about your experiences plus work through any questions. All workshops will be tailored to seasonally appropriate work like planting biennials, autumn sown annuals etc. I am also planning to hold workshops where we can propagate perennials (around August). Look out for more workshops on the website and sign up to the newsletter for advance notice of upcoming events.
